About the conference:

On Saturday, March 30th, college women from all over the DC, MD, and VA region gathered at the Yuma Center in DC for the inaugural Inspiring Leaders Conference, co-hosted by Yuma Center and Girl Talk.  The conference featured distinguished speakers from a variety of industries and backgrounds who shared candidly their experience with "success," "failure" and everything in between!  Registrants received practical and personal tips to be authentic leaders on their campuses, in their classes, and in all of their future pursuits! 


Morning Keynote: Approaching Leadership with Creativity in Mind


Meg McDonnell

Meg McDonnell is Editor in Chief at Verily Magazine. Her writing has been published in various publications, including the International Business Times, MercatorNet, Crux, and Our Sunday Visitor. She was a recipient of a 2011 Robert Novak Journalism fellowship. She was born and raised in the Midwest, and is now proud to call the D.C. metro area home.

Afternoon Keynote: Life Lessons from a Marine Major


Stephanie DeFeo

Stephanie DeFeo is a Major in the Marine Corps Reserves and is studying for a Masters of Catechesis at Catholic University of America. She has served on five deployments in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. She has recently put her sub 3 hour Boston Marathon ambitions on hold in order to begin growing her family with her husband, Devin. They reside in Fairfax, VA with their German Shepherd, Ares.

Breakout 1: "How do I authentically present myself to the world?"
Mary Warren, author and professor, and Lourdes Arguello, personal stylist and home designer, will lead this breakout which focuses on everything from curating your personal style to language etiquette and more!

Breakout 2: "Transitioning from College to Career"
Mary Unverferth and Mary Kate Conroy of CUA's Busch School of Business will team up on "Transitioning from College to Career" and explore how to best present yourself in resumes, interviews, and networking events.

Breakout 3: "Navigating the Blend of Personal and Professional Life" 
Business technology analyst Helen Collins and attorney Yajaira Ortiz-Wilson discuss balancing personal and professional relationships in the post-college years.
